FireFox 3.5 has landed today as it was planned to be released today.
Firefox 3.5 was originally slated to be called Firefox 3.1, but the company decided in March that it had added enough new features to justify the larger bump in number from last summer's Firefox 3.0.
Among the features to debut in Firefox 3.5 are a new, faster JavaScript engine called TraceMonkey; a privacy mode, which some call "porn mode" for one of its more obvious applications; and location-aware browsing. Mozilla has also touted numerous under-the-hood performance improvements, ranging from support for new video and audio HTML5 tags to support for Web worker threads -- enhanced scripting that lets site developers shift JavaScript computations to a background thread.

While the bulk of Intel's upcoming Nehalem and Westmere derived products include quad-core processors, the company hasn't left out dual-core processors just as yet. The dual-core Core i5 desktop processor will be based on the new Clarkdale core, built on the 32 nm Westmere architecture. Originally slated for a Q1 2010 launch, the new chip seems to have been pulled into the Q4 2009 launch schedule, deep enough to make for a significant amount of projected sales, according to sources in the Taiwanese motherboard industry.
The sales projections for Q4 look particularly interesting. Core i5 "Clarkdale" dual-core is projected to amount for 10% of Intel's sales, while Core i7 "Bloomfield" at 1%, Core i5 "Lynnfield" at 2% (Core i7 "Lynnfield" is slated for Q1 2010), Core 2 Quad at 9%, Core 2 Duo E7000/E8000 at 35%, Pentium E5000/E6000 at 31%, Celeron E3000 and Atom together at 9%, Pentium E2000 and Celeron 400 together at 4%. In the following quarter, Clarkdale's sales share is expected to rise to 20%. The numbers prove just how large the market for dual-core processors is, even four years into the introduction of quad-core chips.

Buffalo announced a new USB flash drive that pushes the limits of how small these drives can get, giving similarly sized flash-storage cards a challenge. The Buffalo RUF2-PS packs up to 16 GB of data in 18 (W) x 18 (H) x 8 (D) mm, and comes in variants of 2, 4, 8, and 16 GB. It is truly feather-weight at 3 g. The drive is so compact that the a couple of these could stay latched on to a notebook even when carrying it around. It uses a standard USB 2.0 interface. Its transfer rates or availability haven't surfaced.

Microsoft has again extended the life of Windows XP by April 2011. This happened after a noted research analyst criticized Microsoft's plans to limit sales of Windows XP PCs, the company said it would extend the aged operating system's lifespan in the post-Windows 7 world to as late as April 2011.
On Tuesday, Michael Silver of Gartner took Microsoft to the woodshed over the company's decision to let computer makers sell PCs with Windows XP for only six months after Windows 7 debuts.
Silver blasted the idea as a "real mess," and said that it would make it more difficult for companies to manage their PCs, and more expensive to upgrade them to Windows 7 down the road.
Hours after Silver blasted the plan, however, Microsoft backed off the six-month limit, and confirmed a new policy.
"Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate customers will have the option to downgrade to Windows XP Professional from PCs that ship within 18 months following the general availability of Windows 7 or until the release of a Windows 7 service pack, whichever is sooner, and if a service pack is developed," a company spokeswoman said in an e-mail.
"This is good," said Silver of Microsoft's new plan. "It proves that Microsoft listens to their customers. They have changed licensing decisions in response to customer demand before, and hopefully they will do it again, because this is still not great."

According to a confidential memo that was sent to PC Makers by Microsoft and was obtained by CNET, Microsoft is planning to ship Windows 7 to europe without Internet Explorer. This is most likely because of the claim of European Union that by bundling Internet Explorer with Windows 7 it is being anti-competitive in the browser market.
Microsoft's lawyers responded by saying:
"Our decision to only offer IE separately from Windows 7 in Europe cannot, of course, preclude the possibility of alternative approaches emerging through Commission processes. Other alternatives have been raised in the Commission proceedings, including possible inclusion in Windows 7 of alternative browsers or a 'ballot screen' that would prompt users to choose from a specific set of Web browsers."

Sources at Expreview have informed that GT210 will starting shipping to OEM's from July while the GT220 will not be shipped to channel until August. It was first rumored that nVidia had already shipped it's 40nm GPUs to the big OEMs.
The ship amount will depend on TSMC’s 40nm production. Though TSMC’s May sales show improvement, the 40nm yield issue is not likely to be significantly improved anytime soon.

According to Intel's roadmap that was leaked earlier this year, the six-core Nehalem will be out next year, but according bit-tech Intel has decided to release it later this year. The new 6-core Nehalem will come up with the LGA1366 package. Users of current X58 motherboards will just need to update their bios to use this processor. It is unclear yet what would be the name of this new chip but it is quite certain that it wouldn't fall into the i7 series.
